Are Protein Bars Healthy

Many of us are surprised by the sheer volume of health bars that are available in the grocery stores and through health food stores today. It is difficult to know, however, whether we are getting something that is good for us or not.
If you really take a close look at many of these health bars, you will just find out that they are nothing more than candy bars in a thinly veiled disguise.
I recently recognized this whenever I had a need for some quick energy during a long mountain bike ride. I typically keep some real health food bars with me, but unfortunately, I didn't have any available. A friend gave me a Slim fast, which was more of a joke as far as I'm concerned than something that was healthy for me.
A quick look at the ingredients showed me that the first ingredient was corn syrup, while the second ingredient was sugar. This was really amazing to me, as it actually was telling me that the first two ingredients were basically sugar. The third ingredient was trans fats and from that point forward, the list did not get any better.
Of course, it was not only the lack of any type of healthy ingredients inside of the Slim fast bar that turned me off from it. The simple fact of the matter was, it tasted horrible and it was far too artificially sweet, just in order to cover over the fact that it was so bad for you.
If you're looking for a true health bar, there are a few things that you should keep in mind whenever you are doing your search. For example, simplicity is the key whenever it comes to a good health food bar so look for basic ingredients, such as fruit, seeds and nuts. You should also look for organic ingredients whenever possible.
Here are a few of my favorite health-food bars:
Organic Food Bars - You might think that I'm just giving you a general idea of what to look for, but this is actually the brand name of one of my favorite choices.
There are several different flavors that are available which range from almond and cashew butter, as well as a few that have organic, dark chocolate included. They contain all-natural ingredients, such as quinoa, bio sprouts, organic seeds and various types of fruit.
I enjoy these bars because they are extremely good for you whenever you need the energy but beyond that, they are fantastic tasting.
You may need to do a little bit of digging when looking for these bars, as they can be difficult to find at your local grocery store.
Laura-bars - Most of the ingredients that find their way into these nutritious bars are raw. They are very simplistic in the way that they are made, which assists in making them nutrition for you.
One of the best things about these is the fact that they are so good, along with the fact that they are good for you. A simple look at the ingredients will show you that they are not going to contain any harmful chemicals.
Prograde Cravers - This is included on the list because I know the founders of the company personally so I have developed a level of trust with their products which is very high.
There are a few different flavors, but my personal favorite is peanut butter. I have to tell you the truth, I haven't found any of them that I did not enjoy.
You can generally find these in some of the grocery stores but they are also available on the Internet.
So are protein bars healthy? Some of them, and once you are able to find the nutrition bar that is good for you, along with being good tasting, you will want to make sure that you keep a ready supply of them available at all times. This will ensure that you have a supply of nutrition and energy, anytime you need it.
