Vitamin Supplements

One of the most common questions that I hear is whether somebody should be taking vitamins regularly in order to supplement their diet. The basic reason why people are asking this is because they are not sure if it is going to help them to lose weight or not.

Although there certainly is a lot of hype that surrounds the taking of these vitamin and mineral supplements, in many cases they are not necessary at all, provided an individual is eating a balanced and healthy diet.

Of course, this should be the mainstay of anyone that is trying to get lean and ripped, as healthy food is going to be what is going to push you in that direction. If you are eating a healthy diet, it is not generally necessary that you have to supplement with vitamins and minerals. As a matter of fact, there may be negative consequences from doing so.

If you really stop to think about it, people did not need to supplement their diet with artificial vitamins all throughout human history. As a matter of fact, the population is at its lowest as far as health is concerned now that we have a ready supply of these artificial vitamins.

Of course, the statistics do show that people do live longer now but that is generally as a result of advances in medicine, not because we are healthier as individuals. Regardless of what part of the human body we look at, we are going to see that we are degenerating at a very rapid speed.

Now that we have that out of the way, let's talk a little bit what about why I feel that it is unnecessary to supplement with artificial vitamins and minerals. Aside from the fact that it tends to be very expensive to do so, we can generally get the vitamins and minerals that we need by eating a balanced diet which contains the right type of healthy meats, raw dairy, fruit, vegetable, seeds and nuts. All of these things in conjunction with each other have the ability to provide our body with the vitamins and minerals that it needs.

Where the problem lies is that the majority of people choose an unhealthy diet as a way of life. Perhaps they feel that they are too busy in order to eat healthily or that it is going to cramp their style in some way or another. Good health is something that should always be considered whenever it comes to making your food choices, regardless of whether you think it is inconvenient or not.

There is also a problem with absorption whenever it comes to these artificial vitamins and minerals. Very few pills are readily absorbed into the body, they tend to just pass through the body and are expelled.

Another thing that needs to be considered is the fact that a variety of these vitamins and minerals contain items that conflict with each other. A good example of this is copper which is often taken at the same time as zinc in these multivitamins. Since they interfere with each other's absorption, you will not get the benefit from either one. There are many other examples as well.

Taking in too much vitamins is also a very easy thing for you to do whenever you are supplementing. A good example of this is vitamin A. and vitamin D. Whenever you're getting these through natural foods, such as organic liver, it would be almost impossible for you to get too many of them into your diet.

Something else that needs to be understood is that these large does of vitamins that are water-soluble can also be toxic inside of the body. Vitamin B is a classic example of this, and you can easily invoke vomiting, diarrhea or liver damage by overdoing it with this vitamin. The vast majority of the time, however, you will get no benefit at all as they are simply flushed out of the system. This can be seen through the deep yellow color of your urine shortly after taking these vitamins.

Finally, you may have a problem taking these vitamins because they are synthetic in many cases. This can easily be seen in the case of vitamin E. It may be that you are getting a natural version, d-gamma tocopherol but it may also be possible that contains a synthetic version, dl-alpha tocopherol. Nothing synthetic is ever going to be better for you than the natural version.

With all the research that is available on these vitamins, is important for you to understand that eating a simple and healthy diet can give you everything that your body needs. This will make the taking of these unnatural and potentially unhealthy supplements unnecessary.
